About Me

Kristin Smyth, Ph.D., LCSW-QS, BCD is a licensed and board-certified advanced clinical social worker with doctorate and masters degrees in social work.

 

Kristin has 20 years of experience working with adults and adolescents to address clinical diagnoses such as bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety & OCD, personality disorders, and self-Injury/self-defeating behaviors; as well as relationship & family stressors, and significant life changes/transitions. 

 

Kristin's professional experience includes direct clinical practice in psychiatric hospitals, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, outpatient community mental health clinics, and private practice. Kristin has ten years' experience in higher education as a university instructor, researcher, and author. Kristin's research explored stigma, interpersonal support, and identity development in young adults with bipolar disorder.

Kristin provides qualified clinical supervision to candidates working toward state licensure (LCSW) and board certification (BCD).​

Services

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy appointments are 50 minutes in length and are scheduled weekly/biweekly.

 

Individual therapy incorporates a tailored approach to address the clients goals. Sessions may address symptom management, coping skills, insight building, and changing thought and behavior patterns.

 

While some goals can be attained in 3-6 months, true therapeutic change often requires a minimum of 6-12 months.

 

Individual therapy is available in person and via telehealth to adults and adolescents.

Family Therapy

Family therapy addresses imbalances in communication, behavior, and expression that impact the well-being of the family and the family members.

 

Family therapy is often provided in conjunction with / as a supplement to individual therapy.

 

Family therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and are scheduled weekly/biweekly.

 

While some goals can be attained in 3-6 months, lasting change often requires 6+months.Family therapy is only available in person.

Group Therapy

Group therapy provides a unique opportunity for clients to work toward therapeutic goals with interpersonal support and collaboration from group members. 

 

Group therapy typically meets weekly for 60 - 90 minutes. An attendance commitment of 4 group sessions is required.

 

Therapy groups may meet in person or via telehealth.

Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision is available to post-MSW professionals working toward state licensure (LCSW) or board certification (BCD).

Supervision is offered individually and/or in small groups. Sessions are 60 minutes in length and are scheduled weekly or biweekly.

Supervision is available in person and via telehealth.
